Camber

The console-style stereo bus compressor. Five VCA voicings, a two-stage AUTO release that breathes with the track, and the tools a bus usually needs a chain for -- dynamic EQ, transient shaping, tone and measured saturation -- in one calm window. It holds the mix together, and stays out of the way until you push it.

About

Console grammar, measured

Camber follows the grammar of the classic console centre-section compressor: past the threshold it reaches its full ratio within a couple of dB, the ratio positions are clearly separated, and near full scale the curve opens up instead of pinning the peaks ever harder -- so hot material keeps its front edge.

It was built by measurement. A whole family of console VCA compressors was measured in detail -- static curves, timing, the two-stage AUTO release, harmonics against gain- reduction depth -- and rebuilt with original code and math. Not a sample, not a clone of one product: a model tuned to the measured behaviour of the family.

Voicings

Five units, one switch

UNIT picks one of five characters. A is the aggressive one, with the hottest harmonic response to deep compression. B is warm and broad. C is the balanced middle path. D is precise, with a deliberately hard ceiling for when you want the top pinned. E, the default, is the reference voicing: fast grab, separated ratios, open ceiling.

Saturation

Clean when clean, coloured when asked

With DRIVE and COLOUR off the compressor path is exceptionally clean -- and with nothing engaged at all, the signal passes bit-for-bit untouched. DRIVE follows a measured saturation curve, from sheen in the lower half to a real saturator at the top. COLOUR moves the harmonics from odd to even order at constant level. RAIL (16V / 24V / 60V) decides where the nonlinearity begins: earlier colour at 16V, mastering-grade headroom at 60V. The saturation stage always runs at 8x oversampling.

Beyond compression

A bus channel in one window

A three-band dynamic EQ, a PUNCH / SUSTAIN transient expander, LF / MF / HF tone with a CLEAN or FOCUS voicing, and two measured output voicings. A full sidechain section: high-pass, a four-band SC EQ, external input for the compressor, the D-EQ or both, and look-ahead. Stereo, Summed S/C, Dual Mono and Mid-Side.

Metering

A lit VU

The gain-reduction VU sits behind glass, lit by its own lamp. When you bypass Camber the lamp goes out. A live compression curve, GR history, SC EQ and D-EQ pages and IN / GR / OUT meters show what the compressor is doing.
